Welcome to Boulder!

You have picked a city full of eclectic people, places, and especially food. During the day there is a wide selection of restaurants and in the evening locals and visitors alike have their pick of unique bars and nightclubs. However, although drinks are readily available, Boulder can become a scarce place for food late at night. Sometimes is can seem like half of the town closes up by 10 pm. While bar food is always available, there are still other exciting food options that happen to be available when you really need it. As a visitor to this lovely town, especially one who might have enjoyed a few drinks, finding restaurants that are open late in a strange place can be a challenge.

Luckily I am here to offer some very useful advice. Being a junior in college and an employee of one of those food establishments that closes quite early, I am often in search of good late-night food myself. I have compiled a profile of my favorite places in Boulder that will happily serve you food after 10 pm. These choices are based my own personal experiences regarding the quality of the food, quality of the atmosphere, and their “Boulderness”.

As a local, I am excited for you to share in some of my favorite spots.

Cosmos Pizza is the classic college staple of Boulder. They currently operate in two locations on either side of campus and are open until 2:30 AM. There are a lot of things that I love about Cosmos. A lot of their popularity stems from their massive slices and the famous house made “spicy ranch.”  They are also home to incredibly friendly and funny employees. Cosmos is a hub for pre-partying, post-partying, hungover salvation, and anytime snack food. It somehow manages to maintain a comfortable and easygoing atmosphere while also providing great opportunities for people watching. A visit to Cosmos will definitely immerse you in college life once again, complete with all the stereotypes, good and bad. Overall the pizza is great and the place is fun. Give it a try and there is a very good chance you will walk away happy. 659 30th St. | 303.447.3278 |  1325 Broadway #108 | 303.447.1133 |  Hours: 11:00 am – 2:30 am

Boulder Baked is a cozy little storefront on Broadway off of the Pearl Street Pedestrian Mall that is open until midnight every day. They offer a variety of super tasty homemade sandwiches, soups and salads, but what they are most famous for is their selection of baked at your order cookies. With a selection of about thirty different cookie flavors, not to mention their cakes, pies, and ice-cream, it is a perfect place to satisfy a late night craving. The staff are quirky, charming and take their name to heart. The place itself is small and most of the chairs and tables don’t match. It is a gathering place for conversations that are often equal parts philosophy and humor, all over shared milkshakes. Boulder Baked can be the perfect solution to anything from a bad day to late night starvation. It’s alright to indulge yourself, we in Boulder certainly do! 1911 Broadway | 303.444.4999 | Hours: 4:00 pm –12:00 am

This establishment offers a specialty that one might not expect as a storefront food.  D.P. is famous for their handmade and handheld calzones with a side of marinara for dipping. Although they take a bit longer to prepare, they are always worth the wait. These calzones are absolutely packed with ingredients and if you don’t happen to finish them in one sitting, they make wonderful leftovers. You can choose to design your own zone or simply choose any of their delicious suggestions. When visiting D.P. you should always put in the extra few dollars for a fresh baked cookie with your calzone. It is hard to explain until you have had one but the satisfaction of the cookie after the calzone is phenomenal. D.P.Dough is also a really cool restaurant in itself. All of the walls are covered in crazy hand painted murals and it’s common to investigate all of the artwork while you are waiting for your food. 1622 Broadway |  303.444.9663 | Hours: 11 am-2 am Sunday-Wednesday, 11 am-3 am Thursday-Saturday.

The Yellow Deli is one of the quirkiest Boulder suggestions that I have. They are pretty much a hippy hole in the wall.  Open 24 hours Monday through Thursday they are a haven for night owls and midnight snackers. Most of the employees look and act like they are strait out of the 1960’s Woodstock era. They have a great selection of sandwiches, salads, soups, and tea that all have a natural and earthy feel to them. Although it is found on the quite modern Pearl Street Mall the restaurant is decorated in hard wood like the inside of a mountain cabin. The booths even have little roofs overhead and all of the lights emit a warm glow. When you first walk in, the Yellow Deli will make you laugh with its hippie style but then you will fall in love with the good food and good people that work there. 908 Pearl St. | 303.996.4700 |  Hours: 24 Hours Monday-Thursday, 12 am-3 pm Friday, 12PM-12AM Sunday

A Boulder original restaurant, Illegal Pete’s is a classic local late night spot that is open till between midnight and 2:30am depending on the day. This is the only option on this list that serves alcohol, so they always tend to have something interesting going on. They serve tacos, quesadillas, and handheld burritos whose ingredients are lovingly mixed to perfection before they are wrapped up. Do not mistake their food for Chipotle or Qdoba simply because of the similar style setup. Everything about the flavor and atmosphere is unique and personal. Pete’s is a Boulder favorite any time of day, but they are particularly tasty late at night after or in the midst of adventures around town. It has a pleasant mix of chain restaurant style efficiency and local character. Since it is a popular choice for college students and adults alike, Illegal Pete’s always seems to have a vibrant crowd of people. It is the perfect place to go when you aren’t ready for the fun of the night to be over just yet.  1124 13th St. |  (303) 444-3055  | 1447 Pearl St. |  (303) 440-3955 | Hours: 11 am-12 am Sunday-Wednesday, 11 am-2:30 am Thursday-Friday

Hopefully you will check out some of these tasty late night options while you are in Boulder!
